Other uses for DiscHub?

Wonderful product! I'm actually hoping to be able to do something opposite of most people I've seen discussing the DiscHub. Rather than trying to store something on it, in the short term I have a library of about 500 data CDs and DVDs (not audio or video) from over the last 13 years that I want to get moved over to a 2tb hard drive. I was hoping that i could load up the DiscHub and start a batch copy operation from the DiscHub to the HD. It would save me weeks if this works, what i can't figure out is what software package would allow this to be done? Is the the backup suite? or the publisher? I can't really find exactly what i am looking for in the available documentation. Can anyone suggest?

Hello,

I noticed that it was stated the the MediaTracker SDK was available free of charge. I have not been able to find it. I am interested in developing a few simple to use applications to do specific tasks with the Dischub. Things like batch copying, duplicating, storage and access of blank media. Basically things to make my life easier.

Please advise.

Hi DelawareGuy,

Greetings from Digistore Solutions.

The DiscHub Backup and Publisher edition is not be able to do as you have suggested. However, there is the Centurion DiscHub Workgroup Edition which you might want to look at. For more information, you can check out http://www.centurion-cd.com/products/centurion-dischub-workgroup.

Basically, the Workgroup Edition allows the contents of the disc in the DiscHub to be inventorised and recognised as a virtual Hard Disc to your system or network. This will allow you to transfer your data as if you are transfering from one Hard Disc to another Hard Disc.

I hope this helps.
Thank you for your interest.

I am looking for the same. I have over 1000 data discs to put on RAID harddrives. And the software should create extra folders for each disc copied with the disc name (and additionally the dischub's slot number 1-100). If there are read errors there would have to be an option to set how many retries should be done before skipping to the next file. the program should not just cancel the automation job based on an error.
errors need to be logged so that afterwards discs were errors occured could be cleaned or manually copied in a single drive.

for creating backups the process should also work in the other direction. batch burning of directories from the harddrive to DVDR. each unique directory (with max. 4.37gb of data in it) being burned 1:1 to a blank disk. a verification option should also be selectable. in case of burning errors the program still should move on to the next disk/s but let the user know afterwards which disks failed. there is no need for a database or index file etc as novosoft office backup is doing.

somebody in the suggestion forum wrote about copying and ripping hundreds of audio discs to the HD. in a way also a similar process, at least the part of getting all the data over. the ripping could be done on the HD with extra software.

it seems there is really a big demand for a simple batch copying, batch burning application.

I couldn't test the storage quest disc hub manager trial from the dischub workstation package as I don't have a trial key. it doesn't work to sign up at storagequest.com there is no email sent with the login.

no one of course with such a basic batch copying software need would want to shell out $3500 for this software. batch copying software for other discchangers from other company's which use firewire and are not manufactured anymore is sold between $100-$200.

Hello Matt

Greetings from Digistore Solutions.

Thank you for supporting our product, Centurion DiscHub.

Yes.  You are absolutely correct that there is really a big demand for simple batch copying and batch burning application. Hence, Digistore Solutions introduced " Centurion DiscHub Publisher " providing batch burning for CDs/DVDs/Blu-ray.

Meanwhile, I would appreciate if you could kindly introduce our Centurion DiscHub to any corporation that deals with software for batch copying.  Digistore Solutions is more than happy to collaborate with third-party developers to expand our solution-based for Centurion DiscHub.  Any interested companies could write to me directly at : vfoo@digistoresolutions.com for further discussions.

I do agree with you that the pricing for " Centurion DiscHub Workgroup " is expensive.  This is because the " Centurion DiscHub Workgroup " is targeting for more enhance and complicated usages, for example : connecting to professional medical devices etc.  Furthermore, this bundle is also fairly sophisticated as it could also facilitate the Centurion DiscHub to be networkable.

Thank you and best regards.

Cheers

Once I got my Dischub and started playing with it I was able to write some very simple command-line tools to perform batch-copy. They call the changer.vbs script that you provide for download. I have happily been batch ripping my old data discs over to directories and/or as ISO images. I have had to do some shoddy work-arounds to overcome some mediatracker behaviors but I have it down to a science now and am very happy with it.

Overall I love the device, despite some minor issues with CDs not being able to be removed, fortunately there is a thread on the forum about how to pop the lid off and gently free them when it happens.

If the SDK were cheaper I would definitely purchase and write more sophisticated software, but I'm not able to afford the SDK so I'm just basing my work on the changer.vbs download as I said. If you would like to know more or can offer any suggestions on improving my application please feel free to contact me and we can discuss.
