Firmware for the integrated DVD-RAM drive (Matshita SW-9587S)

Just wondering if there is any firmware updates out for the internal drive of the Dischub. I have been having odd issues where when burning a dual layer DVD+R disk (Ritek brand, always been reliable in my Pioneer drive) where it will get part of the way through a burn (44% on my last burn of 8gb of data) then tell me the media is incompatible.

 Hello Sir / Madam

Greetings from Digistore Solutions.

Please advise which burning (authoring ) software you are using - and whether you have tried using slower writing speed instead ?

Thank you and best regards.

Cheers

I've tried both ImgBurn and PowerDVD Power2Go to try burning an ~8gb iso, in every case it gets to about 40-45% then fails by saying the media is incompatible. According to the media, the maximum burn speed supported by it is 8x, however the burner will only handle it at a maximum of 2.4x. I'm currently testing a burn at 1x to see how it goes...

EDIT:
Despite forcing it to 1x, it still has a write rate of 2.4x. The Disc ID of the media I'm using is RITEK-S04-66. This time it failed out a bit after 42%, the messages ImgBurn left was "Failed to Write Sectors 1742752 - 1742783 - Reason: Peripheral Device Write Fault"

Every retry after this said "Cannot Write Medium - Incompatible Format"

Hello Sir / Madam

Greetings from Digistore Solutions.

Do you mind trying to use Verbatim DVD+R DL discs ?  This is because Digistore Solutions has being using Verbatim DVD+R DL discs without any problem.

Looking forward to hear from you soon.

Thank you and best regards.

Verbatim DVD+R DL 8x disks or 2.4x disks? I'll get hold of some of these tonight and test them out (about 6 hours away, give or take).

Not sure if it helps, but the dischub has no problems handling 4.7gb TDK branded disks, it will happily burn these at 16x with no problems at all. I've resized my image file down to just under 6gb instead, which seems to have burnt fine to the RITEK media... Maybe its the layer sizes causing the issue.

EDIT:
After some research online, it would appear to be an issue with the layer change, which explains why it seems to happen roughly half way through (right on the transition between layers). The strange thing is that I was able to successfully burn smaller sized images to Ritek media with no apparent issues... It may be a combination issue related to both the media (Ritek S04 disks apparently aren't known for quality) and firmware of the drive, as my Pioneer 212 has no issues burning a full sized image... Verbatim media is about three times the price of the average Ritek media, so if the burn problem can be fixed or mitigated with a firmware upgrade/change I'm all for it! I'm not particularly concerned with data longevity, the disks themselves tend to be stored and rarely used, and will be irrelevant in a few years time as the data will be obsolete.

You have to be kidding me. I used to move over 10 thousand media (I was a media vendor). It's the drive not the media. Please do your study.

Hello Antoniolea

Greetings from Digistore Solutions.

Thank you for your posting.

I have done my study.  You should also investigate what others have claimed about Ritek CDs/DVDs from the internet.  I understand that their DL disc creates incompatible issues with other optical drives as well.

I was formerly from a media manufacturer.  I know Ritek is one of the cheapest media in the industry and in some occasions, Ritek discs were even given free.

Thank you and best regards

Hello Sir / Madam

Greetings from Digistore Solutions.

Digistore Solutions is certain that Verbatim DVD+R DL discs works on Centurion DiscHub.

Furthermore, you are absolutely correct that Ritek S04 is not known for quality and it does seem that many other brands of writer have similar problem with this optical media as well.

Meanwhile, our Engineering Department is checking for the firmware for the writer.

Thank you and best regards

I grabbed a spindle of Verbatim disks and sure enough, no problems writing to these at all at any speed... It would be good if the Matshita drive does have newer firmware that can cope with the Ritek S04 disks, they're about a third of the price of Verbatim disks!

Hello Sir / Madam

Greetings from Digistore Solutions.

Thank you for your updates - and that you are able to use the Verbatim DVD+R DL discs on Centurion DiscHub.

Furthermore, Verbatim DVD+R DL discs is one of the most reliable brand in the industry.  Hence, it is more expensive than the RITEC DL discs though.

Digistore Solutions will revert back to you as soon as there is newer firmware available supporting RITEK-S04-66 though.

Thank you and best regards

Cheers
